Softball in Virginia for Atlantic Region Challenge

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Salem, Va. - The Golden Eagle Softball team is in Salem, Va. this weekend for the Atlantic Region Challenge where they will face off against four PSAC schools during the spring break tournament.

Game One - East Stroudsburg

Charleston would put on a homerun display in the first inning against East Stroudsburg as the Golden Eagles would send three over the fence to jump out to 5-0 lead.  The long balls would come from a lead-off shot by Jacqueline Carlin (Whittier, CA) followed by 2-run shots by Kelly Browning (Fairfield, OH) and Kendal LeFrancois (Bolton, MA).  With the pressure off of Morgan Aguirre (Logan, WV) in the circle due to the early lead, she pitched five solid innings giving up one run on five hits while striking out five ESU batters in picking up the win.  UC would add another homerun in the seventh inning, again by Browning giving her two for the day and four for the Golden Eagles for the game.  Charleston would hold onto a 6-3 win as ESU would score a couple late runs to narrow the gap.

Browning would finish the game going 2-for-4 at the plate with both hits coming by way of HR while knocking in three RBI's.

Game Two - Indiana Univ. of Pa.

In a flip-flop from the earlier game, IUP would jump on the Golden Eagles in the third inning by hitting two HR's in the inning off of Courtney Fain (Urbana, OH) to get out to an early 4-0 lead over UC.  Fain would settle in after that third inning and pitch four scoreless innings, giving Charleston a chance to get back in the game, and that's just they did.  UC would pick up a run in the sixth on a Browning single that scored Janeen Vazquez (Cincinnati, OH) to bring the score to 4-1 heading into the seventh.  Again, the long ball came into play with UC trailing by three, Kayln Butt (Oxford, PA)came to plate and smacked a 2-run shot to bring the Golden Eagles within one.  Unfortunately time ran out on UC as they couldn't muster another run to force the game into extra frames and would fall to IUP 4-3.
