Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Charleston, WV - The University of Charleston would get dominating pitcher performances in a two-game sweep of Salem International Wednesday evening, shutting out the Tigers 3-0 and 1-0.
Courtney Fain (Urbana, OH) would toe the rubber for the Golden Eagles in the first game, going all seven innings in picking up the win. She would only allow three hits while striking out five Tiger batters. UC would get the offense started in the third inning when
Katelyn Hamilton (Parkersburg, WV) would score on a
Jacqueline Carlin (Whittier, CA) single, then a
Janeen Vazquez (Cincinnati, OH) double would plate Carlin to give Charleston a 2-0 lead. The Golden Eagles would add another run in the fifth when Hamilton would lead off the inning with a solo homer over the left field fence. That was more than enough offense for Charleston as they took the game 3-0.
Charleston would need the shutout in game two as Golden Eagles struggled from the plate, but one run was all that Aguirre would need to pick her fifth win on the 2013 season. Despite being outhit by Salem, Aguirre always had an answer when in trouble usually relying on a strikeout to get out of a jam, fanning seven in the complete game. UC would get their lone run of the game in the fourth inning when Butt would come to bat with LeFrancois on second base and would come up with a double off of the left field fence that allowed LeFrancois to score. Charleston would hold on for the 1-0 win, bringing their record to 9-10 on the season.
The Golden Eagles hit the road Friday as they head north to take on Fairmont State before heading back home to face Alderson-Broaddus on Saturday.
