Box Score 2 Charleston, WV - The University of Charleston began WVIAC Softball play Friday afternoon splitting a doubleheader with Fairmont at the UC Softball Field.
UC would win the first game of the 2-game series 5-1 over the Fairmont State Falcons. The games were originally scheduled to be played on Fairmont's campus but were moved to Charleston due to recent weather. The game would remain scoreless until the fifth inning when the Golden Eagles would plate three on an RBI single by
Andrea Hayes (Columbus, OH) followed by a 2-RBI single by freshman
Jenna Evans (Chapmanville, WV). UC would add two additional runs in the 6th inning when
Ayla Santos (Calvert County, MD) laced a double to the gap that allowed
Kelly Browning (Fairfield, OH) and
Kayln Butt (Oxford, PA) to score on the play.
Courtney Fain (Urbana, OH) was in command of the Fairmont batters, keeping them off balance for the full seven innings. She would only give up one run on hits in the complete game, striking out five Falcons on her way to her fifth win of the season.
The bats that came alive at the end of game one, went silent in game two as UC would come away with only three hits in the 2-0 loss. Fairmont would do their damage in the third inning taking advantage of three Charleston errors to score their two runs. Fairmont's Nikki Nuzum would pick up the win for Fairmont, while
Morgan Aguirre (Logan, WV) would take the loss for the Golden Eagles despite not giving up an earned run.
UC will return to action Saturday when they host Alderson-Broaddus with the first ptich set for 1pm.
