UC Comes Away with Two Wins Against Pioneers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 Glenville, WV - Charleston traveled to Glenville to face the Pioneers and came away with two victories in the four game series over Friday and Saturday.

UC would get swept on Friday, losing the decisions 2-1 and 12-6 to Glenville State.  Charleston would only manage three hits in the 2-1 defeat in game one not giving Alec Austin any room to work with.  Despite the loss, Austin would pitch well in his 6 1/3 innings of work.

The Golden Eagles would get the bats going in the second game, but so did the Pioneers.  Charleston would fall to the hosts by a score of 12-6 despite jumping out to a four-run lead in the first inning, and held a 6-1 lead heading into the fourth inning.  Glenville would score 11 straight runs off of three UC pitchers, Ciolfi, Hooper and Zimmerman.  Glenville would sweep the day, but Charleston was finally able to hit the ball giving them something to build on going into the two games for Saturday.

Charleston would erupt for 19 runs in the third game of the weekend series in a 19-8 win over the Pioneers. Igor Molina would be red hot from the plate, going 3-of-4 with a double, two HR's, while knocking in six RBI's. Not to be outdone by Molina, Corey Hill went 3-for-5 on the day also including two homeruns. UC would pound out 20 hits against the Pioneer pitching staff, with eight of those hits being multi-base hits.  Tyler Shreve would be the beneficiary in the win, throwing a solid six innings of work in giving up two runs on three hits.

In game four, UC woul again jump out on Glenville holding a 6-1 lead going into the fifth frame.  Charleston would get most of its offense from Molina who had hit a solo shot in the third, then a base-clearing triple in the fourth to account for his four RBI's in the game.  The Pioneers would storm back in the fifth inning scoring four runs to draw the score within one, 6-5.  UC would add some insurance runs in the seventh inning to get the lead out to 8-5 before giving the ball to Corey Lakatos to slam the door on any comeback by Glenville.

UC sits at 10-15 overall and 7-7 in WVIAC play.  The Golden Eagles get back on the field Tuesday as they host UP-J in a doubleheader with first pitch set for 1:00pm.
