Box Score 2 Charleston, WV - The Charleston Softball team took game one of the doubleheader against A-B Saturday before falling to the Battlers in the second game of the two-game series.
UC took the first game of the day by a score of 5-3 behind a solid pitching outing from
Courtney Fain who logged her fifth win of the season, and her third for the week. Charleston would score two runs in the third inning when
Andrea Hayes would lay down a sacrifice bunt but the throw from the Battler third baseman made its way into the right field corner allowing
Katelyn Hamilton to score from first and Hayes made her way all around the diamond to give UC a 2-0 lead. After A-B narrowed the gap in the fourth by plating one, Charleston would get a 2-run single up the middle from
Janeen Vazquez to extend the Golden Eagle lead to 4-1. UC would add another in the sixth inning on a Hamilton RBI triple that was laced over the A-B right fielder's head allowing
Kelly Browning to score. A-B would threaten in the final inning, but their efforts were too little too late as Charleston would hold on the 5-3 win.
Game two was a different story as Battler pitcher, Vanessa Bodily, would throw a 2-hit shutout for the visitors as A-B went on to 6-0 win over Charleston. The Battlers would rough up Charleston starter,
Morgan Aguirre, who only managed to get through only 3 1/3 innings before being relieved. With the loss, Aguirre falls to 5-6 on the season and Charleston fell one game below .500 for the season, sitting at 11-12.
UC will host Wheeling Jesuit Wednesday in a WVIAC doubleheader starting at 3:00.
