Box Score 2 Charleston, W.Va. - The University of Charleston improved their overall record to 17-16 with today's sweep of the visiting Senators. Charleston would win the games by a score of 3-1 and 4-3, taking their WVIAC record to 8-4 with an important matchup with Wesleyan set for tomorrow at 2pm.
Courtney Fain (8-7) would pick up the win in game one for the Golden Eagles, going six innings and striking out eight Senator batters while allowing just one run.
Abby Nicholas would step in to close the game, pitching a near perfect 7
th inning, striking out two to pick up the save. Charleston would score all three of their runs in the third inning in the 3-1 victory.
Jacqueline Carlin would go 2-for-3 for the game, while
Janeen Vazquez and
Kayln Butt would each pick up RBI’s to lead UC to the win.
Morgan Aguirre would toe the rubber for Charleston in game 2 and would pick up her ninth win on the season, going six innings and striking out eight in the process.
Angel Withrow would complete the 7
th inning for UC in earning the save for the 4-3 win.
Kendal LeFrancois would provide all of the offense for UC in the second game, going 3-for-3, driving in all four runs. Kendal would single in the first to drive in one, then triple in the third to bring in two, then would hit a solo HR in the sixth to give UC the 4-0 lead. D&E would put a scare into Charleston fans as they would plate three in the seventh, before Withrow would pitch out of a bases loaded jam to hold on to the 4-3 win.
