Box Score 2 Charleston, WV - After losing the first game 4-0 and trailing UP-J 8-0 in game two, Charleston got a come from behind win after a walkoff single to take the victory 11-10.
The visitors from Pennsylvania blanked the Golden Eagles in game one, 4-0, behind starting pitcher Nate Pope. UC would only manage four hits in the game, with three of those coming from
Ryan Foster in his 3-for-3 day.
Jake Ciolfi would take the loss for Charleston, taking his record to 0-4 for 2013. Despite the loss, Ciolfi pitched well in the complete game, only allowing three earned runs while punching out nine by strikeout.
UC seemed en route to a second consecutive loss after falling behind to the Mountain Cats 8-0 after the first inning of game two. Charleston starter
Jordan Banks would get through 3 2/3 innings before being pulled, allowing nine runs on nine hits and struggled finding the strike zone walking six UP-J batters. The Golden Eagles would get back in the game after a 6-run third inning to only trail the Mountain Cats by two runs, 9-7. UP-J would add a run in the fifth to extend the lead to three runs, 10-7, going into the final two innings. UC would plate two runs in the sixth to narrow the lead to one, 10-9, setting up the dramatic finish in the seventh.
Still trailing by one, Charleston would get two runners on when
John Schraer would tie the game on a sacrifice fly that scored
Tyler Hathaway. With one out left and
Anthony Brunetti on second,
Robert Collin became the hero for the Golden Eagles coming up with a walkoff RBI single to score the winning run, completing the UC come from behind win.
Charleston goes to 8-8 in WVIAC play for the 2013 season. UC hits the road this weekend to take on Concord in a three-game series Saturday and Sunday.
