Baseball Takes Two of Three from Ohio Valley

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 Vienna, W.Va. - The University of Charleston dropped game one of the three game series Friday before rallying for two wins today over Ohio Valley University.

GAME ONE

Charleston would fall behind early and big Friday, trailing 15-0 after five innings of work.  OVU would take advantage of nine errors by the Golden Eagles and pound out 23 hits off of the UC pitching staff en route to the 19 runs being scored.  Charleston would make the game respectable late, scoring 13 runs betwen the 6th and 8th innings.

However, UC couldn't get of the hole they dug themselves early and would fall to the Fighting Scots 19-13 after the nine inning game.  Alec Austin would take the loss for Charleston, giving up 11 runs but only four of those being earned.  Molina would go 2-for-4 at the dish, driving in three in the 7th inning on a three-run HR.

GAME TWO

UC's defense and pitching would get back on track Saturday, limiting Ohio Valley to just one run on four hits and committing just one error in the 6-1 win.  Tyler Shreve would again pitch well for Charleston, throwing all seven innings in the complete game win, his 6th consecutive victory.

The Golden Eagle offense would be paced by Schraer, Molina and Hill. Schraer would go 3-for-4 for the game, accounting for two of the UC runs.  Molina and HIll would hit HR's in consecutive games for the Golden Eagles, driving in four between them.

GAME THREE

Charleston would rally from an early 3-1 deficit to defeat the Fighting Scots 6-4 in the third game of the three game series.  UC would use a 4-run third to secure a win for Travis Zimmerman, who went five innings in the victory and picked up help from Lakatos who pitched the 7th to earn the save.

Hill would hit his third HR of the series in the 4-run third inning, with his long ball accounting for three of the runs.  Molina would continue to swing a hot bat for the Charleston, going 2-for-4 with both of his hits being doubles.

With the two wins Charleston improved its record to 18-23 overall and 14-15 in WVIAC play, putting them in 4th place in the WVIAC South with just five conference games remaining, including an important matchup next weekend at WV State.
