Rams No Match for Golden Eagles, Get Road Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The University of Charleston took care of Shepherd in WVIAC softball doubleheader action at Shepherd on Saturday. The Golden Eagles gained an 11-2 win in game one and added a 9-0 win in the nightcap.

GAME ONE

Charleston took a 6-0 lead in the first inning in game one with a three-run double by
Hailey Tretick keying the rally.

Shepherd scored a pair of runs in the fourth to trim the lead to 6-2, but the Golden Eagles added five more runs over the last three innings to pull away for the win.

Kendal LeFrancois went 5-for-5 with two RBIs, two doubbles and a run scored to lead the Golden Eagles. Jacqueline Carlin would go 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot, driving in two Golden Eagles.  UC would pound out 16 hits agains the Rams pitchers en route to the 11 runs.

Courtney Fain got the win to improve to 9-8, pitching all seven innings, striking out nine Rams while giving up only two runs.

GAME TWO

The Golden Eagles grabbed a 6-0 lead in the first in the nightcap. A two-run single by
Andrea Hayes highlighted the rally after taking advantage of some early Ram fielding miscues.

Charleston added a pair of runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to end the game early on the eight-run rule.

Jenna Evans, Ayla Santos, Katelyn Hamilton, and Hayes each had a pair of hits to pace the Golden Eagles with Hayes grabbing two RBI's on her 2-for-3 game.

Morgan Aguirre gained the complete game win to improve to 11-7. Morgan would give up just two hits in the shortened five inning game adding four strikeouts to her season total.

UC improves to 20-17 overall on the 2013 season and 11-5 in the WVIAC, currently putting the Golden Eagles in third place going into their second doubleheader of the weekend against Seton Hill on Sunday.
