Golden Eagles and Griffins Split Sunday Series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Charleston returned to the field on Sunday afternoon when they visited Seton Hill in a WVIAC doubleheader.  Charleston took game one of the doubleheader by a 6-1 score.  Seton Hill rallied for a 4-2 victory in game two.  The Golden Eagles improve to 21-18 overall and 12-6 in WVIAC play.

GAME ONE
Charleston jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to a Griffin error on a ground ball by Kayln Butt that scored Jenna Evans followed by a Kelly Browning single that drove in Butt.

Charleston added to their lead with another run in the second  on a RBI single by Jacqueline Carlin that brought home Hailey Tretick to extend the lead to 3-0.  A leadoff homer by Butt in the third made the score 4-0.

The Griffins answered with one in their half of the third to cut the lead to 4-1.  Charleston got that run right back in the top of the fourth on another Butt RBI that plated Andrea Hayes.  UC scored an unearned run in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 6-1.

Fain would notch her 10th win of 2013 going all seven innings, allowing just one run on three hits and striking out nine Griffin batters.

GAME TWO
Game two started out as a pitcher's dual between the Griffins and UC's Morgan Aguirre as the game was scoreless thru the first three innings.  Seton Hill finally broke thru in the fourth to grab a 1-0 lead. LeFrancois would have her own answer in the top of the sixth, smashing a 2-run HR to give the Golden Ealges a 2-1 lead.

Seton Hill answered in their half of the sixth after Aguirre would load the bases allowing the Griffins to score two on a sacrifice fly that drove in one and another scored on a throwing error, giving Seton Hill a 3-2 lead.  Another Griffin would cross the plate on a wild pitch to give Seton the 4-2 win and series split.

Aguirre would take the loss for UC, dropping her season record to 11-8 and ending her 5-game win streak.

Charleston gets back in action Tuesday in a WVIAC road doubleheader at Bluefield State.
