Golden Eagles Take One from Hilltoppers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 West Liberty, W.Va. - The University of Charleston would rally to pick up a game one win over West Liberty University Wednesday, before falling to the home Hilltoppers in the second game.

GAME ONE

Charleston would fall behind 2-0 after the first inning and would trail by the same score heading into the 5th inning before UC bats came alive.  The Golden Eagles would load the bases for Igor Molina after consecutive singles by Anthony Brunetti and Ryan Foster followed by a Robert Collin walk.  Molina would take advantage of the three men on and belt a grand slam to quickly give Charleston the 4-2 lead.

Charleston would add another run in the inning after John Schraer would drive in Corey Hill after reaching second on a double, giving UC the 3-run lead, 5-2.  The Hilltoppers would respond with two of their own in the bottom half to trim the UC lead to 5-4.  Still up 5-4, Charleston would turn the ball over to Corey Lakatos to secure the win for Jake Ciolfi and the Golden Eagles after pitching a scoreless seventh.

GAME TWO

Trailing 1-0 heading in the fifth inning, Charleston again would come alive taking advantage of a Hilltopper error to come away with three runs.  Collin would drive in two during the 3-run fifth, plating Foster and Tim Rein on a 2-out double to give Charleston a brief 3-1 lead.  This time the Hilltoppers answered with more than enough, scoring four run in each of the next two innings to walk away with a 9-3 victory over the Golden Eagles.

Charleston goes to 19-24 on the 2013 season and 15-16 in WVIAC games.  UC will make the short trip to Institute this Saturday and Sunday for a 3-game series with WVSU.  The Golden Eagles currently sit in fourth place in the WVIAC South.
