Softball Win Streak at Five After Sweep of Mountain Lions

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Athens, W.Va. - The Golden Eagles continue their late season hot streak by taking two games from Concord Wednesday at the CU Softball Field, winning by scores of 7-2 and 3-1.

Game One– Charleston 7 – Concord 2

While Concord's offense was having trouble against Charleston (25-18, 16-6 WVIAC) pitcher Courtney Fain to
start game one, UC's bats would pound out 13 hits on their way to scoring seven runs in the win.

Eight Golden Eagles would get at least one hit during the first game, led by Jenna Evans' 4-for-5 day hitting in the #2 hole.  Kendal LeFrancois continues her hot hitting  streak by going 2-for-3 with an RBI and Jacqueline Carlin picks up two RBI's on her two hits, one of those being a homerun.

Fain would work all seven innings in the complete game win, taking her win-loss record to 11-8 on the 2013 season.

Game Two – Charleston 3 – Concord 1
The nightcap was a pitchers duel as both pitchers allowed runs in just one inning each. McDougall started the game for Concord with four consecutive shutout innings while UC starter Morgan Aguirre tossed seven strikeouts.

With McDougall keeping the UC bats quiet early on; it was Concord which struck first with a run in the fourth inning.

However, Charleston answered back with a four-hit, three-run inning in the fifth that included a two-run single from Kayln Butt that proved to be the game-winning hit, as Charleston escaped with the two-run victory, 3-1, for the sweep.

Aguirre would improve her record to 12-8 this season with the complete game win, giving up one run while punching out seven Concord batters on strikes.

Charleston is currently on a 5-game win streak and have won 13 of their last 16 games.  UC sits in third place behind WV State and Fairmont St. going into the weekend.

The Golden Eagles return to action Friday, April 26 at home in a conference doubleheader against Glenville State. First pitch of game one is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
