Box Score 2 Institute, W.Va. - The University of Charleston Baseball team would come away winless Friday at Institute, falling to the Yellow Jackets in the first two games of the three-game series by scores of 8-3 and 11-9.
GAME ONE
UC would drop game one to WV State 8-3 despite a 3-for-3 day from
Igor Molina who also drove in two runs in the loss.
Alec Austin would take the loss for Charleston, dropping his record to 3-6 on the season. Austin would work five innings giving up five earned runs on eight hits. The Golden Eagles would actually enter into the bottom half of the 6th inning tied with the Yellow Jackets 3-3 after the two-run blast in the top half of the inning by Molina, only to have WV State erupt for five runs to squash any hopes of UC game one win.
Molina currently sits in sixth for the entire conference in batting average, hitting just above .400 at .406 for the 2013 season and is tied for fourth in HR's with nine round trippers.
GAME TWO
The Charleston offense would produce nine runs on 11 hits in game two, but the UC pitching staff couldn't contain the Yellow Jackets as WVSU would escape with ann 11-9 win over the Golden Eagles. UC would fall behind early but would rally in the third and fourth innings to briefly grab an 8-7 lead. Charleston would score five runs total in those two innings, getting RBI's from
Brunetti,
Foster,
Itnyre and
Iacovone to take the advantage over the host Jackets.
However, WV State answered the call and tied the game in the bottom half of the fourth and took the lead for good in the fifth plating three runs to go on for the 11-9 win.
Tyler Shreve would take his first loss of the season, as his record went to 5-1 for the 2013 campaign. Itnyre would have the big game for the Golden Eagles, going 4-for-4 in his designated player position. He would drive in four runs on his four hits, three of which were doubles.
Charleston plays their final game of the season Saturday in a nine-inning game against WV State with first pitch set for 1pm. The Golden Eagles dropped to 19-26 on the season and 15-18 in WVIAC play with today's losses.
