Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Charleston, W.Va. - Morgan Aguirre and the Golden Eagles added two more W's to their record Saturday as they swept Ohio Valley in WVIAC action. Aguirre would fire a no-hitter in game two of the sweep, her first in the Charleston uniform.
GAME ONE
Charleston would struggle offensively in game one, but
Courtney Fain would do her job in the circle firing 6 1/3
scoreless innings to make up for the lack of offense. Fain would limit the visiting Scots to just four hits on the afternoon, before being relieved in the seventh when
Angel Withrow would close the door on any OVU hopes of sneaking out a win by retiring the final two batters in the 2-0 victory.
Charleston would get their two runs in the fifth and sixth innings. First in the fifth
Jenna Evans would find herself on second base when
Kendal LeFrancois would line a shot down the third base line that moved Evans to third. Trying to turn her single into a double, LeFrancois would get caught in a rundown, but smart baserunning would allow Evans to score from third before Kendal would be tagged out. UC would add a run in the eighth on a pinch hit RBI up the middle that drove in Hamilton from second.
That would be all of the offense Charleston would need, as they took game one 2-0.
GAME TWO
UC would keep the offensive momentum going in the first inning of game two when Charleston would load the bases for
Ayla Santos who would deliver a double to right field that would empty the bases, giving the Golden Eagles the 3-0 lead.
Hailey Tretick would immediately follow with a double of her own, that would plate Santos to push the lead to 4-0.
Four runs was more than plenty for
Morgan Aguirre (Logan), who is second in the WVIAC in wins with 14 and bolsters a 2.21 ERA. Aguirre would keep the Scots batters off balance with her variety of pitches, gathering easy putouts and seven strikeouts through the seven innings of work. In fact, she was unhittable as she would pick up the second no-hitter in the past week by a Charleston pitcher (
Abby Nicholas vs. BSC on 4/23). Her bid for a perfect game was stopped just short on an error by the Golden Eagle defense in the fifth inning, the only runner to reach base for OVU.
Charleston would win the game 4-0 and improve their record to 28-19 and finish out the WVIAC regular season 19-7. UC will likely finish 3rd in the WVIAC and will wait for the pairings for the WVIAC Tournament to be played next week in Vienna, WV.
