Box Score 2 Charleston, WV - The University of Charleston picked up a win over WVIAC rival WV State Saturday evening in the doubleheader split.
On a beautiful evening at the UC Softball Field, Charleston would taste defeat in game one of the twin bill against the Yellow Jackets, falling 4-0. WV State would do all of their damage in the third inning off
Courtney Fain to take the 4-0 victory.
UC regrouped for game two and got a dominating pitching performace from
Morgan Aguirre to set the tone for the Golden Eagle win. Morgan would strike out 10 WV State batters on the way to her 7th victory of the 2013 season.
Tied at 0-0 in the bottom of the fifth
Janeen Vazquez, the lone senior on the UC team, came to bat with
Hailey Tretick on 1st. In front of the rowdy crowd Vazquez would lace a double to the the right-center gap that brought Tretick around from 1st to score the first run of the game that sent the Golden Eagle fans into a craze. Vazquez would steal third that forced a wild throw from the the Yellow Jacket catcher and allowed Vazquez to make the score 2-0 as she crossed home plate.
UC would close out the game for the 2-0 win behind the complete game performance from Aguirre.
Charleston's record sits at 13-16 overall and 4-4 in WVIAC play.
