UC Falls to Rams but Rebound for Win Over Battlers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 VIENNA, W. Va. – Shepherd jumped on top 5-0 in the first inning en route to a 7-2 victory over No. 2 Charleston.

Shannon Lyons went the distance, giving up just two runs on three hits for the victory.
Courtney Fain took the loss for the Golden Eagles.

Savannah Snyder blasted a two-run shot to start the scoring. An error by the UC defense kept the inning alive for the Rams  - and the designated visitors took advantage. The team scored three more to essentially secure the win. Taylor Bolton doubled home two runs in the frame.

SU tacked on two more in the third behind Taylor Schaefer’s two-run homer to center field.

The Golden Eagles managed just one hit until the seventh frame. With one down,
Katelyn Hamilton singled before Ayla Santos launched a two-run shot to left for the final tally.

Charleston would drop to the loser's bracket to face Alderson-Broaddus in an elimination game.  The Battlers fell to WV State earlier in the day to set up the matchup with the Golden Eagles.

Charleston overcame an early deficit to defeat Alderson-Broaddus 4-2 in an elimination game.

After walking, Vanessa Daniels motored around to score on an error to give the Battlers a 1-0 advantage.

The Golden Eagles broke through, tying the game in the third frame. With one out, Jenna Evans doubled to left, moved to third on a single and came home to score on a bunt by Kendal LeFrancois, knotting the game at 1-1.

In the fifth, Evans doubled and eventually scored on Kendal LeFrancois’ bunt. Katelyn Hamilton doubled home Angel Withrow. UC made it 4-1 on Allison Evans’ single.

A-B scored a run in sixth and threatened in the seventh, but could not push any more runs across.

Morgan Aguirre went the distance for the win, giving up just one earned run. Hannah Whitney took the loss.

Charleston will face WV Wesleyan tomorrow at 10am in another elimination game.
