Box Score Charleston, W.Va. - The University of Charleston Men's Soccer team moved to 2-1 on the season after shutting out Alderson-Broaddus 2-0 Wednesday evening at Schoenbaum Stadium.
UC used a dominating offensive effort to earn the victory over the Battlers from Philippi, outshooting the A-B 19-0 on the night. The Golden Eagles would continually threaten the back line of A-B, and finally punched one home in the 23rd off a direct kick from
Conor Branson (Pontefract, England).Â
Alexander Martinez-Gallardo (Vancouver) would work his way through the Battler defense and get taken down around 25 yards out to give Branson the opportunity to beat the A-B keeper and make the score 1-0 in favor of UC.
Charleston would continue to knock on the door but couldn't finish in the final third and would take the 1-0 lead into halftime. Eight minutes into the second half, the Golden Eagles would find the net again after assists from
Lewis Osborne (Wakefield, England) and
Augusto Maciel (Sao Paulo, Brazil) to find
Jules Gabbiadini (York, England) in front of the Battler net to knock home an easy chance. That would be all Charleston would need as the defense stifled the A-B attack and never threatened
Fabian Veit (Dielheim, Germany) in the UC net as he was not forced to make a save all match.
Charleston will return to action Saturday evening at 7pm as they host Shepherd in their first MEC matchup.
