Box Score Erie, Pa. - The 2013 season opened with a top-15 matchup between the  #11 Golden Eagles on the road to face  #13 Gannon.  Charleston (1-0) would come away with a huge regional win over the Golden Knights (0-1) by a score of 2-1.

UC would dominate play in the first half, outshooting Gannon 7-1 at the break but couldn't find the back of the net as the teams headed into the locker room with score stuck at 0-0. 

The Golden Eagles would again start the second half in a flury, creating multiple chances before finally grabbing the lead on a Lewis Osborne (Wakefield, England) goal in the 58th minute off an assist from Renan Ramos (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).

Charleston would hold the 1-0 lead until the 72nd minute when Gannon forward Robbie Bennett would finish a header that beat UC keeper Fabian Veit (Dielheim, Germany) to even the score at one apiece. 

The Golden Eagles would answer back eight minutes later when Alexander Martinez-Gallardo (Vancouver) would receive a pass from Augusto Maciel (Sao Paulo, Brazil), beat the Golden Knight keeper,  then finish on an empty net to give UC the 2-1 advantage with just over 10 minutes remaining on the clock. 

The Charleston defense would turn away any chance of another Gannon equalizer and earn their first win of the 2013 campaign, 2-1. 
The Golden Eagles return to action Sunday to face #4 Mercyhurst at 3pm in Erie, Pa before making the return trip home.
