#2 Men's Soccer Draws With Wesleyan

Box Score BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - The #2 ranked University of Charleston ended their nine game winning streak in a 1-1 draw against West Virginia Wesleyan.

The Golden Eagles started the match in good form and jumped on the Bobcats early. Lewis Osborne (Wakefield, England) turned two defenders and found his way down the left side only to slot a great ball across the box to Augusto Maciel (Sao Paulo, Brazil) who calmly beat goalkeeper Felipe Vial putting UC up 1-0 in just the 10th minute. Charleston continued to push the attack but were denied several times by Vial. The best chance came from Conor Branson (Pontefract, England) who had a powerful header that Vial tipped over the bar. The half finished 1-0 with UC dominating 9-2 in shots.

The second half seemed to even out a bit with chances coming from both sides. Wesleyan would find the equalizing goal in the 58th minute as Thomas Capstick placed his header off a free kick far post beating UC keeper Fabian Veit (Dielheim, Germany). Chances continued to come for both sides forcing some great goalkeeper saves and defensive blocks. The half ultimately finished 1-1 forcing the match into overtime.

The first overtime looked to be in UC's favor as they pushed hard to find the game-winning goal. Felipe Rafael Antonio (Sao Paulo, Brazil) hit the crossbar as well as Osborne who just barely placed a good shot wide.

The second overtime would be the most exciting as both teams pushed for a goal. In the final seconds, Wesleyan broke on a counter attack and almost finished the game however UC's Jake Young (Cambridge, England) put his body on the line and cleared the ball from passing into the net.

The match would finish 1-1 after 110 hard fought minutes. The result puts Charleston at 9-0-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the MEC. Their next match up is against Notre Dame this Wednesday, in South Euclid, Ohio.
