CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The UC Men's Tennis team picked up a Mountain East Conference win Friday afternoon, defeating Fairmont State University 8-1 at Schoenbaum Courts.
Charleston cruised to 8-0 wins in each of the three doubles matches to take the early commanding lead. Coach Matt Santen manuevered some players around the lineup for the match against the Falcons and the changes proved to be effective.
The Golden Eagles sealed the match victory when Matt Sherba and Dennis Okoth made quick work over their singles opponents to give UC the 5-0 match advantage. James Gammell notched a win at the No. 1 position while Davey Nelson and Varun Shah easily dismantled their Falcon opponent at the No. 4 & 5 spots. Fairmont took the last match of the afternoon as Tyler Newman fell in a super tiebreaker to the Falcons' Stephen Ware.
The win puts Charleston over the .500 mark on the season, going to 6-5 overall and remained unbeaten in MEC play at 2-0. The men return to action tomorrow at 1pm to host the University of Virginia College at Wise.
