SOFTBALL SPLITS MEC OPENER AGAINST GLENVILLE

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Charleston, W.Va. – The University of Charleston women's softball team opened Mountain East Conference play Saturday by splitting a double-header with Glenville State College, dropping an 11-4 contest before winning 7-2.

In game one, GSC pounded 15 hits and scored 11 runs behind Morgan Scarpellini, who went 4-for-5 with a double and homerun. Mackenzie Smith drove in four runs with a 2-for-4 performance, adding a homerun as well for Glenville.

UC only tallied five hits in the contest and wasled by Ayla Santos and Kendal LeFrancois, who each went 2-for-4 at plate and each hitting their first homeruns of the season.

In game two, Morgan Aguirre pitch a complete game, scattering six hits and only surrendering two late runs to pick up her sixth win of the season. Andrea Hayes and Kelly Browning led the offensive charge with two hits apiece as Charleston scored seven runs on eight hits.

UC moves to 13-7 on the season, 1-1 in MEC play and is back in action Sunday against MEC rival West Virginia Wesleyan. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. at the UC Softball complex.
