Box Score 2 CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston baseball team split a doubleheader with Shepherd University Saturday afternoon at Triana Field, dropping game one 4-0 before winning a dramatic game two 1-0.

Alec Austin took the mound for Charleston and worked five and two thirds innings, giving up two runs on eight hits before giving way to Michael Hooper. Hooper came in to work one complete inning, surrendering two runs on three hits. Austin took the loss for the Golden Eagles to make his 2014 record 1-2 on the young season.Â

Shepherd starter Paul Hvozdovic got the complete game shutout for the Rams, scattering four hits over seven innings while striking out five Eagle batters.

Game two saw zero's across the board for six and a half innings before Robert Collin doubled in Keifer Hovorka to earn the 1-0 walk-off victory.

UC starter Andy Hoyer worked all seven scoreless inning for the Golden Eagles, allowing just four Ram hits on the afternoon.

The doubleheader split takes UC's record to 3-5 overall and 1-5 in MEC play. Charleston and Shepherd resume action Sunday at 1 p.m. for another twin bill.
