Box Score 2 CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Charleston's Ryan Foster blasted two homeruns Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader sweep of Glenville State College at Triana Field.
GAME ONE
After falling behind early 2-0 to the visiting Pioneers, UC put togther a four run third led by a Jordan Banks two-out two-RBI double that started the rally. The Golden Eagles added a couple more runs on back-to-back bases loaded walks to take the 4-2 lead at the end of the inning. Alec Austin settled in on the mound after the rough first inning to go five and one-third innings only giving up two runs.
Charleston plated a single run in the fifth before erupting for five runs in the sixth powered by a two-run homerun by Foster. The five run sixth put the Golden Eagles in command of the game 10-2 heading into the seventh and final inning. A Pioneer rally closed the UC lead to 10-8 before Corey Lakatos came in to close the door on a Glenville comeback and earn the save.
GAME TWO
Again the Pioneers jumped on top of the Golden Eagles, plating four runs in the second inning, building on the momentum from the end of game one. Charleston wasted no time responding though as they closed within one run after a three run bottom half of the inning. Four consecutive hits started the inning that brought around two UC runs, followed by a Foster groundout that brought in the final run of the inning. After two, UC trailed 4-3.
The Pioneers took a two-run lead in the fourth, but once again the Golden Eagles had an answer as they scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-5 lead into the fifth inning. Foster's second homerun of the day drove in three Golden Eagles after Michael Hoeft and Robert Collin reached by Pioneer error.
Charleston added another run in the fifth for the final score of the game as Anthony Brunetti relieved UC starter Andy Hoyer for a perfect sixth and Lakatos pitched a flawless seventh to pick up his second save of the afternoon.
UC improves their overall record to 13-16 and goes to 9-16 in Mountain East play. The four-game series with Glenville concludes tomorrow with another doubleheader at Triana Field. First pitch is slated for 1:00 pm.
