UC GRABS THREE WINS ON WEEKEND

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston women's softball team returned home after a six-game road trip in which it picked up wins over Fairmont State 6-3, 8-3 and Shepherd University, 8-7. Charleston (24-14, 8-8) sits seventh in the Mountain East Conference with 12 games left in MEC play.    

Thus far the offensive production has come from multiple spots in the line-up.  UC is hitting .310 as a team and scoring over five runs a game.  Rachelle Toppings leads the team with a .459 batting average in just 35 at-bats. Samantha Herndon, who has a team-high five home runs, a .343 batting average, six doubles, and 25 runs batted in, and Hailey Tretick, with a team-high 32 runs batted in, a .330 average and four home runs, solidify the three and four spots in the line-up.  

Junior Andrea Hayes leads the team with 39 hits, 32 runs scored, four triples, and 17 stolen bases to go with a .345 batting average, second-highest on the team. Jenna Evans adds a .311 average with 22 runs scored and 10 stolen bases. Fellow sophomores Katelyn Hamilton, with a .340 average, 22 runs scored, and 25 runs batted in, and Kendal LeFrancois, who has a .303 batting average, team-high nine doubles, four home runs, 22 runs scored, and 24 runs batted in, make a powerful five-six combo. 

In the circle, the Golden Eagles 254 strikeouts are a MEC league leader.  Morgan Aguirre (11-7) has 96.0 innings pitched, with 113 strikeouts, and a team-low 2.41 ERA. Junior Courtney Fain is 9-5 in 18 starts, with 102.1 innings pitched, a 3.22 ERA and team-high 116 strikeouts. Seniors Abby Nicholas and Angel Withrow have recorded the other four victories on the season. Defensively for Charleston, Ayla Santos has thrown out nine of 13 runners while Kelly Browning leads with 55 assists on the season.    

The Golden Eagles return to action Friday, April 18 when they host current fourth place Notre Dame College, with first pitch set for 2 p.m. in a pivotal MEC match-up. Charleston is 13-3 on season at home and will finish the season playing 10 of their last 14 games at home.
