Box Score 2 URBANA, Ohio - The ninth place Golden Eagles came up with two huge wins Friday afternoon over second place Urbana University to keep their postseason hopes alive, defeating the Blue Knights 6-3 and 8-2.
GAME ONE
Charleston used a four-run third inning capped off by Brandon Pedley's two RBI double to give Golden Eagle starter Tyler Shreve a good cushion from the mound. UC plated two more runs in the sixth inning behind Brad Johnson's single to left field that gave Charleston a 6-0 lead.
After scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth, the Blue Knights threatened to steal a victory from the Golden Eagles by taking advantage of four consecutive walks by UC pitchers. Leading 6-3 with the bases loaded, Corey Lakatos squashed an Urbana rally by retiring three of the four batters he faced to secure game one for the Golden Eagles and earn his sixth save on the season.
Tyler Shreve picked up his second win of the season to improve his record to 2-4. Johnson and Pedley were the offensive heroes, each driving in two runs for Charleston.
GAME TWO
UC held a slim 2-1 lead heading into the sixth inning before erupting for six runs on seven hits to take command of the game 8-1. Patrick Chiaramonte continued his strong season on the mound in picking up his third win on the year, working five innings and allowing just one run. Anthony Brunetti threw two innings in relief to give Charleston the 8-2 victory and afternoon sweep of the Blue Knights.
Ryan Foster kept his power surge going with another HR and added a double for two RBI's in the game. Zach Gunter also drove in two in win. UC pounded out 10 hits for the eight runs in game two.
The win improves UC's overall record to 16-19 and takes their MEC record to 12-19. The conclusion of the four-game series takes place tomorrow in Urbana with first pitch set for 1pm
