Box Score 2 URBANA, Ohio (April 19, 2014) – . After sweeping the first three games of the series over the second place Blue Knights, the Golden Eagles came up short of a victory in Saturday's finale. Charleston guaranteed themselves a series victory over the Mountain East Conference's second place team with a 3-1 win in Game 1 on Saturday, but the Blue Knights took the second game by a score of 9-5.
Charleston took advantage of two early Blue Knight errors to take a 1-0 lead after one when an Anthony Brunetti sacrifice groundout brought in Timmy Rein. The Blue Knights tied it at 1-1 in the fourth inning.
In the seventh, the Golden Eagles singled twice off Urbana reliever Beall to start their rally. After a sac bunt, Tyler Intyre doubled off the wall in left field to score the go-ahead runs. Urbana got the tying run on base in the bottom of the inning before UC recorded the final out. Keiffer Hovorka worked two and a third innings to earn the win in relief of starter Andy Hoyer.
Game two saw two errors by UC starting pitcher Joey Shiflett lead to two Blue Knight runs in the first inning. The Eagles answered with a pair of runs on a couple of Urbana errors in their next at-bat, but the Blue Knights assumed the lead for good after a 4-run outburst in the bottom of the second.
The 3-1 series win helped UC improve to 17-20 on the year, including a 13-20 mark in the MEC. The Golden Eagles needed the wins to climb back into the MEC's top 8 spots. Only the top 8 teams advance to the post-season tournament in mid-May.
