Golden Eagles Pick Up Win Over Bluefield State

Box Score BECKLEY, W.Va. - Charleston Baseball grabbed a 9-5 win in a non-conference game against Bluefield State College today to continue their current hot streak, winning four of their last five.

The Golden Eagles opened scoring in the first when Anthony Brunetti singled home Ryan Foster to take an early 1-0 lead.  Corey Lakatos got the unusual start for UC and struggled in the first, giving up three runs but settled in after that to work five innings in allowing just those three runs on the afternoon.

Trailing 3-2 going into the fifth inning, UC erupted for four runs on a pair of two-RBI hits from Tyler Itnyre and Chris Wooten to take their first lead of the game at 6-3.  Bluefield responded with two runs in the seventh off UC reliever Alec Austin to cut the lead to one, 6-5.  A three-run ninth highlighted by a Robbie Collin two-run double sealed the 9-5 victory for the Golden Eagles, improving their overall record to 18-20 for the season.

Charleston returns to action Saturday and Sunday as they host WV Wesleyan in a four-game Mountain East Conference series.  First pitch Saturday is set for 1pm.
