Box Score 2 CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The University of Charleston women's softball team celebrated senior day with two wins over Mountain East Conference foe Concord University by scores of 4-3 and 3-2.
Charleston honored seven seniors in a ceremony between games as Jackie Carlin, Abby Nicholas, Angel Withrow, Hailey Tretick, Samantha Herndon, Kayla Mineo and Sarah Clendenin were recognized. Head Coach Ray Loeser said, "This senior class has so much to be proud of." Over the four years the Golden Eagles have won 123 games. "With a group like these ladies you know what you are getting every day, hard work and the will and want to win," Loeser said.
In the action on the field in game one, UC fell behind 2-0 after Concord added a run in the third. Charleston tied the game on back-to-back singles by Katelyn Hamilton and Rachelle Toppings, plating Kelly Browning and Hamilton. Courtney Fain commanded the mound as she scattered four hits in seven innings of work, allowing one earned run while striking out seven. The seventh inning turned out to be a dandy for the Golden Eagles. After allowing the go-ahead run in the top half, Charleston used a two-out two-RBI single from Ayla Santos that scored pinch runner Bethany Cera and Andrea Hayes, who singled earlier in the inning. The walk off hit gave Charleston the 4-3 win. Fain picked up the victory and moved to 15-5 on the season.

Game two Concord again jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Browning's single scored pinch runner Taylor Guay in the fourth and Tretick's two-RBI single extended Charleston's lead to 3-1. Concord threatened in the seventh with runners on first and second; however, Morgan Aguirre settled and held on to the 3-2 victory. Jenna Evans and Browning each had two hits for UC. Aguirre moves to 14-9 on the season and adds to her team-high 158 strikeouts with seven more today.
With the two victories and Urbana's two loses Charleston jumped into fourth place in the final MEC standings. With a overall record of 33-17 (17-11), UC will open MEC Tournament play on Thursday, May 1 when they will take on the winner of West Liberty/Urbana at 5 p.m. in Salem, Va.
