Golden Eagles Suffer Two Close Losses to Mountain Lions

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - UC dropped a doubleheader to Concord University Sunday afternoon, failing to score enough runs in the 3-2 and 3-1 losses.

GAME 3
The Golden Eagles won the hit battle 8-6 on Sunday, but couldn't push enough runs across to get the win, instead losing 3-2 in seven innings to Concord University.  Tyler Shreve was a workhorse on the hill for UC, allowing just two earned runs on six hits and no walks while striking out three over seven innings of work.

Chris Kelly got the win for Concord University. He allowed two runs on eight hits over seven innings, striking out one and walking one batter.

The game's last lead went to the Mountain Lions thanks to a third inning rally that saw two runs cross the plate on a sacrifice bunt by Andrew Seigel that Shreve misplayed.

After pushing across two runs in the bottom of the fifth, Charleston faced just a 3-2 deficit. A groundout by Jordan Banks and an RBI single by Brad Johnson triggered the Golden Eagles' comeback. Finally, Chris Kelly induced an inning-ending ground out from Mike Hoeft and closed the door on a Golden Eagle comeback win.

GAME 4

Concord's Zach Kelly got it done on the bump on the way to a win in game 4 of the four-game series. He allowed one run over seven innings. He struck out two, walked none and surrendered five hits. Despite a good performance Patrick Chiaramonte took the loss for the UC Golden Eagles. He went the entire seven innings, walked one, struck out four, and allowed three runs.

One run gave Concord University a leg up after neither team scored for most of the game. Concord University scored on an RBI single by Charles Goss to start the scoring in the fourth inning  The Golden Eagles' lone run of the ballgame came in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Anthony Brunetti that tied the game at 1-1 heading to the fifth.

Concord took the lead back the next inning, as the Mountain Lions scored one run on an RBI single by Joe Camp. UC only had one runner reach base over the final three innings and saw Concord leave Charleston winners of three out of four against the Golden Eagles.

The UC record drops to 11-16 overall and 7-16 in the Mountain East.  Charleston returns to action next Saturday and Sunday for a four-game series with Glenville State.
