Box Score SALEM, Va. – The University of Charleston women's softball team fell in their opening game Thursday, 3-2 to Urbana University in the Mountain East Conference Tournament.
Charleston, who left nine runners on base, was held to just six hits and two runs on the day. Second Team ALL-MEC outfielder Rachelle Toppings led the way for UC with two singles. The Golden Eagles only hit with runners in scoring position came from pinch-hitter Bethany Cera with two outs in the sixth that scored Kendal LeFrancois and made it a 3-2 game.
Courtney Fain took the loss, pitching five innings for the Golden Eagles scattering four hits and striking out five.
UC is back in action Friday at Noon against Wheeling Jesuit in a must win game.
