#8 Charleston routs Shepherd in lopsided match, 13-0

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - "The #8 University of Charleston Men's Soccer team defeated Shepherd University 13-0 in their opening Mountain East Conference game.

Goals have seemed to be the trend so far for the Golden Eagles as Lewis Osborne (Wakefield, England) opened the match, scoring in the 2nd minute on a great combination play with Michael Hagarty (Wellington, New Zealand) who got the assist. Shortly after Hagarty provided another assist to captain Conor Branson (Pontefract, England) who took a quick restart on a free kick and buried the ball in the top corner from 35-yards out. After two assists, Hagarty scored a goal for himself as Osborne slipped him a ball that he calmly placed with a one-time finish far post. With four points already in the match, Hagarty would get two more with a great finish assisted by Augusto Maciel (Sao Paulo, Brazil) giving him two goals and two assists on the day. UC didn't stop there as freshmen Will Roberts (Denbigh, Wales) added a pair of goals puttin Charleston up 6-0. To finish off the half, Maciel also netted a pair of goals. Andrew Harrison (Washington, England)chipped in on one and recorded an assist. Maciel and Roberts are both tied now as leading goal scorers each with five on the season. UC finished the first half with an astonishing 8-0 lead on the Rams.

The second half was just as impressive as Charleston got everyone not only minutes, but also points on the score sheet. Jules Gabbiadini (York, England) opened the second half with a finish assisted by Osborne. Michael Lacombe (Royal Oak, MI) found his first career goal with a worthy 40-yard-strike that beat Shepherd's goalkeeper to his left putting UC up 10-0. Gabbiadini added his second goal of the night making it 11-0. Freshmen Dion Stergiotis (Oakville, Ontario) joined in the attack and earn his first career goal as well putting away a Shepherd rebound. To close out the match, Renan Ramos (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) scored in the final minutes making it 13-0.

The shutout on the night was be shared by Fabian Veit (Dielheim, Germany) and Justin Bryant (Amelisaburg, Ontario).

The win puts the Golden Eagles at 4-0-0 on the season and 1-0-0 in the Mountain East Conference. UC will be back in action this Wednesday at home against the 2013 MEC champions Notre Dame College."
