Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The UC men's soccer team recorded a 6-0 victory over in-region opponent, Gannon University (PSAC) in the opening match of the 2014 season.
Kick-off was delayed for an hour due to thunderstorms in the area but this did not humble the spirit of UC. From the first whistle, the work rate of the Golden Eagles was just too much for Gannon to handle, and after the first 30 minutes UC led 3-0 with goals from Will Roberts, Kevin Freucht, and Renan Ramos. The first two goals were scored after flowing moves down the pitch, while the Ramos goal, the team's third, was an exquisite free kick from outside the 18-yard box.
The 2nd half, was not of the same high caliber as the 1st half but UC did not stop the work rate and continued to control all features of the match, further goals from Ramos,(picking up on a rebound from Branson's 35yd goal attempt) Roberts, and Felipe Antonio gave the score line a healthy look. This was a total squad performance and the result bodes well for UC men's soccer season.
Head Coach Chris Grassie added "This opening night was a pleasure to be part of with good home support from the students of UC, the CSS, and the Developmental squad."
UC's next opponent is the #4 team in the nation, Mercyhurst. Kick off will be at 4pm this Sunday, September 7th.
