CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A career-high 21 points from
Jevonte Hughes helped lead the University of Charleston to a 90-71 victory over Urbana University Saturday afternoon at Eddie King Gym.
Charleston, winners of six of its last seven games, went on a 25-0 run after falling behind to the Blue Knights 5-0 to start the game. With 11:38 remaining in the half, Charleston had a 25-5 lead and didn't look back. The halftime time lead stood at 17, as UC led, 42-25. The Golden Eagles shot 62 percent from the field in the half and held Urbana to just 35 percent.Â
The second half created a much anticipated back-and-forth battle as Charleston managed to outscore UU 48-46 and secure the 19-point victory. Overall UC shot 60 percent from the field, 31-of-52, while shooting 8-of-14 from behind the arch. Â
Thirteen points from
Vincent Dillard and 12 points from
Chris Evans provided a three-man show for UC. On the glass Hughes led with seven rebounds and
Tino DiTrapano added a team-high six assists with his nine points. Â Â Â
For Urbana, Rodney Clark Jr. led with 11 points off the bench, going 3-of-4 from three, while Christopher Cromity added 10 points. Ognjen Rebic grabbed a team-high seven boards for the Blue Knights.
With the victory, Charleston moves to 10-4 on the season and 5-3 overall in MEC play. The Golden Eagles hit the road Monday, for a 6 p.m. tip-off against Notre Dame College in South Euclid, Ohio.
