The University of Charleston Men's Volleyball Team traveled to Bristol, TN for the programs historic first volleyball match.  Unfortunately the excitement of this historic first match was short lived, as they were defeated by the King Tornado's 25 – 17, 25 – 18 and 27 – 25.
Coach Crane had this to say about the first match in program history, "The team actually did much better than I expected.  We have an all freshmen team, and in every match this year we will be playing teams filled with upper classmen who have been at this for years.  With a team of all freshmen you can expect a good share of errors.  In our case we made very aggressive errors, and only a few "bone headed" errors.  So if we can continue to play the way we did in the third set we should be able to put together a good first year".
While the Golden Eagles ended up losing there were some outstanding efforts put in.  Leading the way on offense was Rajahl Moxey, a freshmen right-side who had 11 kills.  On defense, freshman outside Ryan Santos led all Golden Eagles with 8 digs and anchored the defense.  Finally, Anthony Rivera ran the offense contributing 22 assists in the teams losing efforts.
Charleston (0-1) wastes no time returning to the court as they face Belmont Abbey on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. before making their home debut Sunday at 2:00 p.m. against NJIT.
