CHARLESTON, W.Va. -
Aleksander Kesic's nine straight points from behind-the-arch, helped the University of Charleston Men's Basketball team push a 13-2 run and create an arm's distance lead to start the second half. UC, eventually held on to a 70-65, victory over Concord University, in a Mountain East Conference match-up.Â
With both teams knotted at 34 apiece, buckets by
Chris Evans and
Jevonte Hughes started the Golden Eagles on all cylinders. Then, came back-to-back-to-back three's from Kesic and before Concord could call timeout they trailed by 11 points just 4:20 into the half. The Mountain Lions didn't fall quietly. Like much of the first half, which saw a back-and-forth battle of possession for possession, Charleston saw its 13-point lead cut to just one with 1:03 left when BJ Hamlet drove to the basket and converted a lay-up. However, Evans and
Tino DiTrapano connected on four straight free throws after Concord misses to seal the victory for UC.Â
Kesic led all scorers and the Golden Eagles with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while
Cameron Dozier added 14 points, with Evans and Hughes each chipping in double digit scoring performances. UC connected on 13 threes shooting 47-percent on the night from behind the arch. Second chance points proved to be key as Charleston led 13-7 in that category while only out rebounding the Mountain Lions 38-37.Â
Concord was led by Hamlet with 15 points and eight rebounds. Rob Reed chipped in with 12 points shooting 4-of-8 from the field.
With the victory UC moves to 9-4 overall and 4-3 in the MEC. They are back in action Saturday when they host MEC opponent Urbana University with tip-off slated for 4pm.Â
