Win Over Concord Seals Third Place MEC Finish

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - UC men's tennis won their 2015 regular season finale 8-1 over Concord University at Schoenbaum Courts Monday afternoon to earn a third place finish in the Mountain East Conference.

Charleston (12-4, 5-2 MEC) claimed two of the three doubles matches with the pairings of Lorenz/Gammell and Shah/Bakos taking away wins on double courts two and three to give UC a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.  It was a clean sweep of the singles courts for the Golden Eagles taking all six positions to cruise to the 8-1 victory over the visiting Mountain Lions.  James Gammell provided Charleston with the match clinching win at #2 singles 6-4, 6-2 to give UC the third seed heading into this weekend's Mountain East Conference Tournament.

The MEC Men's Tennis Tournament Championship will be held in Charleston starting Friday with the quarterfinal round and concluding with a Sunday championship. As the #3 seed UC will square off with Fairmont State University who heads into the tournament as the #6 seed.  Charleston easily dismantled the Falcons this past Sunday by a score of 9-0.  Assuming the Golden Eagles defeat Fairmont State it sets up a semifinal rivalry between Charleston and the West Virginia Wesleyan College Bobcats on Saturday afternoon.  The Bobcats handled Charleston earlier this season by a score of 7-2.
