CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The University of Charleston Men's Tennis team wasted no time making their way through the Mountain East Conference Men's Tennis Championship Quarterfinals by easily defeating Fairmont State University 5-0 at Schoenbaum Courts Friday afternoon.
Charleston swept all three doubles courts to take a commanding 3-0 lead heading into singles. Â At number three doubles the tandem of
Varun Shah and
Nicholas Bakos made quick work of their Falcon opponents, taking the match 8-1. Â Meanwhile, the pairing of
Alec Foote and
Dennis Okoth couldn't find their rhythm early on but rallied from a game down to walk away with an 8-6 match win at number one doubles.
Alec Foote was first off the court in singles, cruising past Aaron Leo 6-0, 6-1 to give Charleston a 4-0 advantage and one court away from clinching a spot in the semifinals. Â Just moments later Nick Bakos turned in a 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing of Noah Weber at number five singles to put UC in the MEC Semifinals.
Charleston, the number three seed, will take on second seeded West Virginia Wesleyan College in a rematch of last season's MEC Finals. Â The Bobcats rallied from 2-0 down to defeat UC 7-2 earlier in the year. Â Match time is set for 2:00 p.m. at Schoenbaum Courts in Kanawha City.
