BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - The University of Charleston Baseball team could only come up with a single win at West Virginia Wesleyan College this weekend, coming out on top in the fourth game of the four-game series, 4-2, after being swept Friday evening and losing game three 10-7 on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Eagle offense was anemic in the Bobcat doubleheader sweep Friday afternoon scoring only one run in 14 innings on seven Charleston hits. Â Pat Chiaramonte and Andy Hoyer took the losses for the Golden Eagles and combined are just 2-13 on the season for the University of Charleston.
Charleston was able to score some runs in the third game of the series but unfortunately WVWC scored eight early runs resulting in a UC deficit they couldn't work their way back from. Â Dylan Saunders (2-6) took the loss for the Golden Eagles in his four plus innings of work, giving up all 10 Bobcats runs. Â Zach Gunter led the way for Charleston from the plate, going 3-for-4 and driving in three runs.
Needing a win in the worst way, the Golden Eagles rallied for a victory in the final game of the series, defeating the Bobcats 4-2 late Saturday afternoon. Â David Webb got the start for Charleston and earned his third win on the season by throwing five innings of two-run baseball before giving way to Luke Yingling to earn the save for UC. Â Charleston plated all four of their runs in the fifth inning led by Robert Collin's base clearing double to give UC a 3-0 lead before adding another run on a Josh Easterling RBI double. Â Collin went 3-for-4 with three RBI's in the Golden Eagle win, just their 12th on the year.
