CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston played arguably their best match in a four-set loss to No. 5 ranked Wheeling Jesuit at the CCHS Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.
UC claimed the first set and held a lead in the middle of the second before the nationally ranked Cardinals rallied to take the final three sets. Â It was only the second time this season the defending National Champions had dropped a set in Mountain East Conference play.
Carly Granger and Megan Mourier led the Golden Eagles in kills with 11 apiece. Â The Golden Eagles totaled 11 blocks with Janeese VerVelde, Jordan Wittekind, and Tori Clark all coming up with four each. Â Claire Lambert provided 25 assists while Kelsey Matusic came up with 20 digs for UC.
Saturday's match was the regular season finale with the Golden Eagles finishing 24-12 overall and 12-4 in MEC matches, good enough for a No. 2 seed heading into the conference tournament.
