CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston played arguably their best match in a four-set loss to No. 5 ranked Wheeling Jesuit at the CCHS Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.
UC claimed the first set and held a lead in the middle of the second before the nationally ranked Cardinals rallied to take the final three sets. It was only the second time this season the defending National Champions had dropped a set in Mountain East Conference play.
Carly Granger and Megan Mourier led the Golden Eagles in kills with 11 apiece. The Golden Eagles totaled 11 blocks with Janeese VerVelde, Jordan Wittekind, and Tori Clark all coming up with four each. Claire Lambert provided 25 assists while Kelsey Matusic came up with 20 digs for UC.
Saturday's match was the regular season finale with the Golden Eagles finishing 24-12 overall and 12-4 in MEC matches, good enough for a No. 2 seed heading into the conference tournament.
