UC Defeats Bluefield State, Salem International in Joe Manchin Classic

SALEM, W.Va. – The University of Charleston men's basketball team defeated Bluefield State 81-61 on Friday and Salem International 69-49 on Saturday in the 35th Annual Joe Manchin Classic.  
 
Against Bluefield State, the Golden Eagles were led offensively by Keir Anderson, who finished with 15 points. Shaq Speights scored 12 points for UC and dominated the glass, tallying 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Justin Coleman and Jonathan Joseph also finished in double-digits, both recording 12 points.
 
Charleston held a significant margin in shooting percentage in the contest, finishing at 50.8 percent (66.7 percent 3PT) while the Big Blues shot 37.3 percent (16.7 percent 3PT). UC dominated in the paint, outscoring Bluefield State 52-32 and outrebounding them 41-29.

Salem International had a hard team keeping Coleman away from the boards as the senior grabbed 14 rebounds and tallied 16 points. LeJavius Johnson chipped in 12 points for the Golden Eagles and Jonathan Tshibuy added 11 points.
 
UC dominated in the paint once again, outscoring the Tigers 40-20. The Golden Eagles recorded 47 rebounds, leading to 19 second chance points.
 
Charleston has one more contest before the new year on Saturday, December 17 on the road against Ohio Valley at 4p.m.
