HARLESTON, W.Va. - The men's tennis team opened its season against perennial powerhouse Bluefield State College Friday evening at the Charleston Family YMCA, losing 7-2 to the Blues. Bluefield lost in the quarterfinals of the 2015 nationals. All three doubles matches were competitive. Charleston's first doubles pair of Foote and Gammell picked up a win while Bluefield notched wins at second and third doubles.  Number three singles player Ivan Rajevac had the lone win for the Golden Eagles, but every court was extremely tight with Foote and Lorenz losing in third sets at #1 and #5 respectively. Following the match, 10th year coach Matt Santen said: "I was really impressed with Ivan this evening. He played his first dual match against a very quality opponent and won. He has a great future ahead of him."
