CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The Golden Eagles opened their Mountain East Conference play with a pair of losses on Friday afternoon, falling 3-2 and 8-1 to the visiting Notre Dame Falcons.
Game 1: NDC 3- UC 2
In what would prove to be a pitchers duel between UC's Tyler Shreve and NDC's Jake Welch, the Golden Eagles were unable to capitalize on opportunities while stranding runners in the 2nd, 3rd, and the 6th.
UC starter Tyler Shreve struck out 8 while surrendering 5 hits in 7 innings of work. Freshmen outfielder's, Austin Hathaway and Jeff Somuk, drove in the Golden Eagle's runs.
Game 2: NDC 8- UC 1
The Falcons cruised to an 8-1 victory in game 2 despite the Golden Eagles' attempts at piecing together a big inning. The pitching trio of Adam Jafine, Luke Yingling and Kaleb Kinder surrendered 8 runs (6 ER) on 11 hits and 1 walk. Â
A total of 15 different position players would see time as the Golden Eagles pressed to string together an offensive attach to counter the Falcons' onslaught.
Senior Anthony Brunetti scored UC's lone run on an infield single by Jeremy Tejada.
The Golden Eagles are back in action on Monday, March 21st at 2pm, when they host the Urbana Blue Knights at Triana Field.
