UC Lacrosse Earns First Win in Program History

Charleston, W.Va. – In what was a historic day for the University of Charleston's Women's Lacrosse team, the Golden Eagles secured their first win in program history. With eight Golden Eagles scoring in the 20-1 victory Friday evening over Davis & Elkins College, it's safe to say this win will forever be remembered.

"I am still in awe of the way these young ladies played," said Charleston head coach Tiffany Smith. "To have as many people score as we did, is a true testament to how hard these ladies work day after day. The road for us has been challenging to say the least, but I am so happy that they were able to get a win, and have as many people involved as we did. It was truly a team effort, and it was certainly beautiful to watch."

Davis and Elkins (1-1-0), also had a historic night as it was their very first game in program history.  The Senators' Jessica Kems scored the lone goal for her squad in their program debut.

The Golden Eagles led the Senators at the half with a score of 13-0. Leading the charge for the Golden Eagles was junior captain Nicole Purcell (Cortland, NY), scoring a program high of 5 goals. Sophomore midfielder Peyton Harris (Lockport, NY) and freshman standouts Amberlyn Casas (Key Largo, FL) and Gabrielle Messina (Port Republic, MD) all collected their first career hat-tricks. Amelia Ramos (Cleveland Heights, OH) and Aryanna Jones (Shaker Heights, OH) both added a pair, while Kimberly D'Angelo (Lindenhurst, NY) and Esther Yi (Suwanee, GA) added one goal apiece. Freshman goalie Catherine Clawson (Carrboro, NC) recorded another stellar performance as she ended the evening only allowing one goal.

The Golden Eagles (1-2-0), will host Kutztown University Sunday, March 6 at 1pm.
