CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Charleston opened their 2016 Mountain East Conference schedule Saturday afternoon, making quick work of the visiting Shepherd Rams in a 9-0 match shutout. Â
The Rams threatened to steal a match at #3 doubles but the team of Jake Lorenz and Jamie Gibson prevailed in a tight 9-8 match to sweep all three doubles courts heading to singles. Â Alec Foote continued his winning ways at #1 singles, winning easily in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, to run his streak to three straight matches. Â The rest of the Golden Eagles didn't drop a set in singles as they cruised to the 9-0 victory.
Charleston heads to Hilton Head, S.C. for their Spring Break tennis trip, playing five matches in five days. Â The Golden Eagles start their play Monday evening against St. Joseph's College.
