CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Charleston's unbeaten record in Mountain East Conference men's tennis play came to an end Sunday evening at Schoenbaum Tennis Courts, falling 7-2 to West Virginia Wesleyan College.
Â
The Golden Eagles dug themselves a hole early, dropping both number one and two doubles before getting on the board at third doubles as Varun Shah and Jake Lorenz claimed an 8-6 victory. Despite playing in very close matches, UC was unable to come out on the winning end of five of the six singles matches as Alec Foote was the only Golden Eagle to earn a victory, defeating Nathan Sabate in a super tiebreaker at number one singles.
Â
The loss takes UC to 10-8 overall and 6-1 in the MEC. Charleston, West Liberty and West Virginia Wesleyan each finished the conference season with one loss, sharing the regular season title. The 2016 Mountain East Conference men's tennis tournament begins Friday, April 22 at Schoenbaum Tennis Courts.
