UC Men's Tennis Advances to MEC Semifinals

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The University of Charleston defeated Shepherd University 5-0 in the Mountain East Conference Men's Tennis Championship quarterfinal Friday afternoon at Schoenbaum Tennis Courts to advance to tomorrow's semifinal match against West Liberty University.

Before the quarterfinal match started, Associate Commissioner Hannah Hinton awarded the Golden Eagles the 2016 MEC Men's Tennis Championship trophy as Charleston completed the regular season in a three-way tie at the top of the final standings.  Individual awards went to Alec Foote (Player of the Year), Ivan Rajevac (Freshman of the Year), and James Gammell (All-MEC First Team).

UC raced out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping every doubles court before clinching the match as Rajevac and Jamie Gibson made quick work of their opponents at no. 3 & no. 4 singles in straight sets.

The Golden Eagles now face the Hilltoppers in the MEC Championship semifinals Saturday afternoon at Schoenbaum Courts, match time scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
