Charleston makes their first appearance in a Division II College World Series in the nightcap of the opening day (Tuesday, May 17) at the NCAA DII Festival, taking on East Super Regional Champion, Adelphi University. Both Charleston and Adelphi made appearances in the NFCA Top 25 during the 2016 campaign but come into the College World Series unranked in the latest published rankings. The Golden Eagles and Panthers will square off at 9:30 p.m. ET (7:30 p.m. MDT) in Denver, Colo.
Â
Charleston advanced to the program's first World Series on Thursday afternoon (May 12) when the Golden Eagles capped a best-of-3 series with a 1-0 win over #12 West Virginia Wesleyan College in game 3 of the NCAA Atlantic Super Regional. Thursday's win came on the heels of a 3-0 defeat in game 2 to the Bobcats that set up the third and deciding game.Â
Â
In addition to the pair of wins over #12 West Virginia Wesleyan, the Golden Eagles totaled 50 wins on the season compared to just 10 losses. The 50 wins are the most in program history for any sport at the University of Charleston. UC will bring its 50-10 overall record to the World Series against Adelphi University, as the Panthers are 34-20 and completed a sweep of Southern New Hampshire University to advance out of the East Super Regional.Â
