LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The University of Charleston Women's Volleyball team opened regular season play in the Angela Miele Memorial Tournament this Friday. The Golden Eagles played two matches on the day, and came out with a record of 1-1.
In the first match, The Golden Eagles were defeated by a tough Ashland University team 3-0; 25-13 25-21 25-18. Freshman middle blocker Janeese VerVelde led the attack against Ashland with 9 kills, while Chloe Massaro put up 13 set assists. Senior Shiann White and Freshman Kelsey Matusic added 7 digs in the loss.
In the nightcap, UC swept the Lady Bald Eagles, setting a score line of 25-19, 25-18, 29-27. Sophomore Carly Granger led the attack for the Eagles with 11 kills and added 13 digs. Junior Claire Lambert had 13 set assists in the win.
The Golden Eagles are back in action Saturday afternoon in the Thomas Field House with matches against California University of Pennsylvania and Stonehill College.
