Belle Vernon, Pa. - The University of Charleston Men's Golf team kicked off the 2016/17 season on Monday at the Vulcan Invitational hosted by California University of Pennsylvania (Cal-PA) at Cedarbrook Golf Course. The Golden Eagles completed three rounds of golf for a combined team score of 898 which placed them in a tie for third place with host Cal-PA. West Liberty won the tournament with a team total of 880 points and Mercyhurst claimed the second place spot with 886 points, making for a very close invitational.
Juniors 
Lewis Fenn (Dunbar, Scotland) and 
Justin Westveer (Charlotte, N.C.) led the charge for the Golden Eagles, both shooting a a 223 to lock into a six-way tie for seventh place overall. Senior 
Viktor Pustwo (Saint-Tropez, France) shot a 225 and tied for 17th place. He was followed by 
Cody Kotva (Barrie, Ontario) (229) in 29th place and 
Ritwik Jain (New Delhi, India) (235) in 50th place overall.
West Liberty's Mathew Iceton jumped from a third place start to take home the individual trophy, shooting 72, 72 and 67 for a combined score of 211. Clarion's Sean Edgar placed second (215) and Shepherd's Ryan Crabtree finished in third with 216 points.
The Golden Eagles head to the Glade Springs Intercollegiate next Monday at the Glade Springs Resort in Daniels, W.Va.
