CHARLESTON, W.Va. – University of Charleston men's volleyball won their second straight match Friday evening, defeating St. Andrews University in three sets at the H. Bernard Wehrle Sr. Athletic Arena.
Â
It was a slow start for the Golden Eagles in Friday's match as the visiting Knights jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead before UC got on track. Charleston would win 15 of the next 22 points highlighted by a pair of 5-0 runs and found its way to a 25-19 first set win after hitting a match best .333 for the set.
Â
The second set was closely played until the midway point where the home crowd witnessed Charleston reel off seven straight points turning a two-point lead into a nine-point advantage, 19-10. The Knights were much their own worst enemy during the run, committing five attack errors. UC went on to take the second set by a 25-18 score.
Â
Again, Charleston used an early run to take a 4-3 game to an 11-3 lead capped off by a pair of massive kills from Bryant Ekstein. UC was able to get much of their bench into the third set and cruised to an easy third set win, 25-18. For the match Charleston hit at .300 compared to a .052 percentage for the Knights. UC was led in kills by Brian Cranston and Rajahl Moxey who each terminated eight balls. Conner Brandland paced Charleston in block with three while Anthony Rivera assisted on 24 Golden Eagle points.
Â
The Golden Eagles return to the court tomorrow to face Lees-McRae College at 2:00 p.m in the H. Bernard Wehrle Sr. Athletic Arena. UC faced the Bobcats just six days ago and earned a five-set road win against the Bobcats.
